Dentists that actually care in MTL (recommendations)
Main Post:
I would like to see a dentist that actually cares about my dental health and is good at their job. and the fact that i don't want to plug every cavity I have. I don't have good dental genes so I end up with tons of little cavities, I don't have the money to cover up all the holes as they want to. I wish they could just focus on the ones that are actually sensitive (atm, only barely 2 for instance) and leave the rest. My last dentists would also flame me for not being a big girl and taking care of my teeth properly (their techniciens tried showing me the proper way of flossing my teeth at least 5 times and their string breaks everytime. They blame the string type yet i have no problem flossing my teeth with any type of string.) I guess its my fault for going to cheaper clinics due to the fact that I take the appointment with my parents so we can all do it in one go and I get a free ride.
I live in the st-leonard area, but I'm honestly so open to suggestions. I also work in the old port, so it's not like I can't be elsewhere, just not in the west. I'll see if they cover my uni insurance! Im fluent in both english and french, i do prefer english a smidge bit but will take a good french dentist anyday (that doesn't make unnecessary fixes to cavities (sorry for my ignorance) for money).
EDIT: did not expect to have so many responses to this! Thank you so much, i appreciate this so much :) its been so long since i’ve wished to get good recommendations. My experience with dentists have been so dreadful. Even with high tolerance for pain, just attitude/value wise. Thank you again!!! I love this community :)
Top Comment: If costs are prohibitive (completely understand! Dental anything seems so exorbitant!) I think that you should: 1) definitely check if you've any insurance coverage and 2) perhaps consider consulting one of the university dental clinics, where fees are lower as care is done by graduating students as a part of their final training. University clinics also typically have access to the latest technologies, techniques and imaging. In the end, while I also have wondered why work is needed, I do think that it is prudent to address all your cavities, even those which are "small" or not causing you immediate discomfort, before they get larger. Especially if you are genetically predisposed to weaker enamel, these small cavities will likely only get larger and deeper over time, leading to greater complications and higher overall costs for treatment. Good luck!
Does anyone know of a dog dentist that will not put a dog under anesthesia?
Main Post:
Hi, everyone!
I’m searching for a vet/dentist that can do dog teeth cleanings without putting my dog under anesthesia. Does anyone know of a place that does this?
Not only does the anesthesia make it far more expensive, but my dogs have had their teeth cleaned without it many times without issue in the last city we lived in and I really don’t want them put to sleep when it isn’t necessary...
Thanks (:
Top Comment: I've never heard of doing a full dental cleaning on a dog without anesthetic. Not sure what sort of quality cleaning they'd be able to get done with a dog squirming around.
Dental emergency: Looking for a 24h Dentist
Main Post:
I had a wisdom tooth removed last year and my dentist warned to get my other one removed soon or the same thing would happen. I didn't bother because there was no pain and my dentist said if I felt no pain I should leave it. I just got my Sunlife insurance at work a few weeks ago and then booked my appointment at my regular dentist for a month from now. My tooth is killing me, I've had some pain these past few days but this is brutal, I feel like I'm going to faint or throw up. I've been taking Ibuprofen which has been helping but only for a few hours (I know it thins blood but Asprin hasn't been helping at all)
Does any know of an emergency dentist who I can call or walk in to have this sucker yanked out? You'd be saving my life.

Go to the hospital. Like, now. You could have an infection and could actually be in medical danger. Go to the emergency room ASAP. If necessary, they'll transfer you to a hospital that has a dental department.

Dentist recommendation
Main Post:
Hello all! I have quite a bit of anxiety about going to the dentist and I would like to find a dentist who is nice and knows how to deal with patients that are more scared than the average person 😅
Thanks!
Top Comment: Dr. Daymi Borroto. 4227 Rue Saint-Jacques. Very kind and gentle - you can even send a note re: your anxiety and dental problem and they'll follow up with a phone call. https://www.cliniquefamilident.com/
Any good dentist in Montreal -English speaking?
Main Post:
I went to get my root canal at the Clinique Dentaire Westmount-NDG, Dr. Pierre is really good ! but I am experiencing some pain now that 5 days have passed. I don't wanna go back there for several reasons. First, I wasn't told what to do if I experience pain, would that require another appointment with extra charges? Second, the receptionist is absolutely the worst! she doesn't listen to me when I talk or try to arrange another appointment with the doctor (for in case I need another RCT for my lower teeth). She never sent my Xrays to my insurance company as she was supposed to , and I just hate the service there!
so I wanna try another dentist who is clear on the course of treatment and whose clinic service is easy to deal with in terms of communication with my insurance company.
Any recommendations?
Top Comment: http://www.centredentairendg.ca/ A bit further from where you were but not by much. Receptionist are incredibly friendly and will work with your insurance. Dr Macramella is who I have and highly recommend!
English speaking Dentist downtown
Main Post:
Hi!
Does anyone have a recommendation for an English speaking dentist in MTL?
I can speak/understand a bit of French but I'd be more comfortable understanding health stuff in my native language.
The last post on this reddit was from 8 years ago so it might be out of date.
Thanks!!!

Affordable Dental Clinic in Montreal
Main Post: Affordable Dental Clinic in Montreal
Can you recommend a great dentist in Montreal who accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan (Sun Life) directly, so I don’t have to pay upfront or deal with insurance myself? Also, do you know of any good dentists offering affordable dentures or implants?
Main Post:
I’m currently looking for an affordable dentist in Montreal. Unfortunately, I’m not eligible for special low-income dental clinics, even though I’ve recently lost my job and finances are tight. I’m particularly interested in finding a dentist who directly accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan without requiring upfront payment or one who offers affordable options for dentures or implants.
I’ve checked through the subreddit but haven’t been able to find any recommendations. Unfortunately, three clinics I looked into have recently closed.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice you can share.
Top Comment: Off topic: I’ve literally never succeeded in getting any dentist(3-4 different dentists over the years) to bill my insurance directly lol. Not sure why it’s such a problem for them. I’ve always just paid upfront and claimed it from insurance afterwards, when I remember. I think they do it on purpose.
